Film Influence

I'm very excited about several movies coming out this year, but more than ever I'm excited about the costuming! It seems every 2012 film has a least one major statement piece. Most of which are big billowing gowns with extravagant detailing. The stuff of dreams if you ask me.

The first two photos are from Mirror Mirror and the third from Snow White and the Huntsman.
Both of These films are twists on the tradition Snow White story.

I'm hoping these gowns impact the prom wear industry. Lately the dresses have been getting shorter and glitzier. Some of these dresses have clear burlesque influences, which in moderation is fine. I've seen quite a few around that are borderline slutty. I imagine tall girls are having a great difficulty finding a dress that doesn't show their undies.  For those who haven't seen these dresses here's a few examples I pulled from google images.

I think (more like hope) that these films, with their epic ballgowns, cause a shift in promwear back to the big ballgown silhouette with off the shoulder necklines and embroidery details.
