Fashion Don'ts

These are just a few of the things that I feel are fashion choices one should NEVER make

Leggings as Pants
Leggings are a great way to cover you legs when its cold out or if you are self conscious about your legs. They are not pants. When you where them as pants, people can see your underwear, or god forbid, lack thereof.

But of course, I'm not saying leggings are a don't. There's just a right way to wear them. One BIG tip: Cover your crotch!
A few good ways to achieve this are a top that's too long, a dress that's too short, or some super cute shorts. It'll cover the danger zone, while still keep thing the tights as a focus in your outfit.

Socks with Sandals
There's two categories of people I see doing this waaaaayy too often. Tourists/middle age fathers and young athletic men.

Please don't do this...
just...dont...

socks are meant to be worn in shoes
sandals are meant to keep your feet cool in warm weather

why would you mix these? It just doesn't make sense.

Uggs with shorts
These were meant for freezing temperatures. They were designed in Australia for cold nights on the outback. I have since met a few Aussies, and they really don't understand our fascination with them. First off I would like to clarify, I don't hate Uggs. I just think most people are wearing them wrong.

The combination of shorts and Uggs in counterintuitive. Shorts are meant for hot weather. Uggs are meant for cold weather. Just like socks with sandals, its combining garments meant for opposite weather environments.

So to sum up...
I just wish people would think before they leave the house...

Storyboard

Lolita

Whether is be sweet or gothic the key elements are ruffles, bow and bell shaped skirts. Lots of surface elements, aprons, lace, and cute hats and headbands make lolita style tons of fun. Generally speaking the cuter the better!

Steampunk
Imagine a world in which Victorian fashion stuck and steam power runs everything. Classy men in three piece suits flying airships while edgy women in corsets and goggles maintain the engine. From dapper to dirty, this style is both fashionable and rough. The perfect balance between soft flow and hard construction.

Film Influence

I'm very excited about several movies coming out this year, but more than ever I'm excited about the costuming! It seems every 2012 film has a least one major statement piece. Most of which are big billowing gowns with extravagant detailing. The stuff of dreams if you ask me.

The first two photos are from Mirror Mirror and the third from Snow White and the Huntsman.
Both of These films are twists on the tradition Snow White story.

I'm hoping these gowns impact the prom wear industry. Lately the dresses have been getting shorter and glitzier. Some of these dresses have clear burlesque influences, which in moderation is fine. I've seen quite a few around that are borderline slutty. I imagine tall girls are having a great difficulty finding a dress that doesn't show their undies.  For those who haven't seen these dresses here's a few examples I pulled from google images.

I think (more like hope) that these films, with their epic ballgowns, cause a shift in promwear back to the big ballgown silhouette with off the shoulder necklines and embroidery details.
